Patterned landscapes

3rd grade spent weeks creating beautiful landscapes.  The project required a foreground, middle ground, background and of course a horizon line.  They also learned a bit about perspective and space as we discussed what trees would look like If they were far off in the distance.  They ALL mastered it beautifully and added patterns to the land.  They completed the projects with sharpies and colored pencils.  Take a look!

Take 25 poster contest

In honor of National Missing Children's Day, the Center for Missing and Exploited Children encourages you to take 25 minutes to help make your child's life safer.  At the Franklin School, I have teamed up with the North Andover Police Department to create a safety poster that will be entered into a contest in May.  Grades 4 and 5 have spent a class period discussing safety.  Some of the ideas brainstormed during this time are as follows:
bike safety
substance use
car/passenger safety
guns & weapons
texting & driving
plants & animals
bullying

Winter Art

Here is a variety of images from the past week or so.  Each grade level always creates a snowman- this year in grade 4 we are focusing on shading and highlights.

In grade 3, we are focusing on perspective and size.  

Grade 2 is working on creating a snowman in a landscape, thinking about foreground and background.  

Grade 1 has created a peeking snowman -thinking about size and shape.  The creative details are added last.

Primary color fish

Kindergarten Classes have started their primary color fish paintings recently.  It always amazes me to hear that so many kindergarten children know all about primary colors and why they are so special.  Many are very quick to tell me that they "make all the other colors if you mix them".  Take a look at some of their work.

Relief paper projects

4th graders have been working very hard on their Relief paper sculptures.  A relief sculpture is a type of sculpture where the surface is slightly raised from the back of it. 

Students were told to stick within a color family with the option of using black as an accent.  The guideline for this project was to always be thinking about symmetry and to think about an interesting design. Take a look at some of the students creating their masterpieces.
