This was a one day, make & take project that challenged the minds of the third grade. The entire piece was created from triangles, the only pieces pre made for them were the orange and white shapes that made the fox. However, the tricky part was that they were not labeled so each student had to create the animal by looking at the sample and playing around with the cut shapes. They came out great!

Matisse inspired collages
Grade 3 is learning a bit about Matisse and some of his pieces of work. Part of the discussion was how Matisse would repeat shapes throughout his works as well as overlapped to create interesting pieces. We discussed geometric shapes and polygons. The first day of this project is spent cutting out geometric shapes, arranging them and then applying to surface. Day two will be a discussion on organic shapes. In the end, the students will have a beautiful paper collage! Take a look at a few in progress.
